Most GST Tools Watch Only Half the Portal

The GST portal runs two separate notice systems. Most compliance tools were built to watch one of them, which means the other one is watching you instead.

Ask a practitioner where GST notices show up and most will say the litigation tab. That is true, and also only half true.

The portal keeps notices in two places that do not talk to each other in any way a normal user would notice. One is the adjudication and litigation workflow: show cause notices, replies, hearings, orders. The other is a separate notice and intimation channel that surfaces things like return defaults, registration issues, and system-generated intimations, filed under a different module entirely.

A tool that watches only the first one will confidently tell you a client is clean while the second module is quietly accumulating a notice nobody opened. I have seen this happen. A registration cancellation proceeding sat unread for eleven days because the person managing that client checked the tab they always check, and nothing told them to check the other one.

This is not a rare edge case. It is a structural gap, and it exists because most tools were built to solve reconciliation first and treated notice visibility as an afterthought, a single tab scraped once and called done.

If you are evaluating a compliance tool right now, ask it one question: does it read both notice systems, or just the one everyone assumes is the only one. Most will not have a good answer.

What would it cost your firm if the answer for your current tool is no?
