Column mapping

Assign file headers to the fields the reconciliation engine expects.

29 May 2026

Definition

Column mapping is the step where file headers are assigned to the fields the reconciliation engine expects.

Why it matters

Without correct mapping, the comparison logic reads the wrong values and can misclassify the entire file.

Example

Assigning "Taxable Value" to the taxable field and "Vendor GSTIN" to the GSTIN field.

Common mistake

Assuming every export uses the same header names.

  • Data normalization
  • Purchase register
  • GSTR-2B

Frequently asked questions

Why is column mapping important?
If the headers are mapped incorrectly, the reconciliation logic reads the wrong values and produces bad results.
Do all exports use the same headers?
No. Different systems and vendors often name the same field differently.
